Planning a Website

Before Creating a Website we need to know its Purpose, Context and Target Audience in order to prepare the Web Design through thorough Planning.

Purpose

As we’ve been teaching in our past Ycademy Seminars where we focused strictly and extensively on personal “Secret Garden” principles, the same applies in Web Design: the first and most important step within the Planning phase of a Website is to know its Purpose -

~ What is it for?

~ Who do we wish to reach and how and…

~ what do we want to achieve?

Context

Form follows Context; once we know what we want, we can establish the ideal framework.

In a simplistic way: just as a book is a traditional  ‘container’ for information in form of text and images, websites are similar while being in a digital format where the web design is based on a framework of digital Code and Visual display technology where digital information can be distributed in various formats.

Complex and intrigueing for the ‘normal person’ out there, Web Design is one of the most sophisticated ways of Communication  in our world today.

Target Audience

To think ‘customer-oriented’ and provide what a potential customer might urgently need and where he would be looking for it means that conclusions have to be drawn from a thorough analysis of the target market and the competition.

Knowing your target audience is one of the most important keys to success with any website – and business – on the Internet and in general.

Planning a Website

The above are just the most obvious stages within the Planning phase of a Website and its customized Web Design.

We will focus on this and related topics in this Category – Web Design Planning.
