Free BuddyPress News

Cape Town, 7 May 2009 – by Bianca Gubalke

Free BuddyPress tuned by Semiomantics for YORGOO Media is the ideal combination to start an enjoyable, simple to set up and manage Blogging experience – even if it’s your first one. Especially if it’s your first one!

Meanwhile, we have posted basic configuration instructions on YORGOOpublishing to assist you in setting up your Free Buddy Press Blog from your YORGOO Media Dashboard. You will discover some additional plugins – as also used on YORGOOpress or YORGOO Blasters for example,  so you are quite familiar with them – including Interactive Video for the optimal BuddyPress Video experience!

BuddyPress Images

Each blogessentially requires good original content and appealing web graphics, photos and images. Inserting images are easy on Free Buddy Press Blogs, but depending on the theme you choose they can be a little temperamental… so here are a few tips to help you along:

In our YORGOO Media supported theme what you need to do from your Dashboard is open the dropdown menu under Appearance on the left Menu, and then click on “Custom Homepage Images”.

You see various Blog Image Uploads and Crop – which means basically that you Browse on your harddrive until you find the image you like to show, then click on upload as usual. The image can now be positioned and scaled by pulling the edges of the little overlay – until you are satisfied… in which case you click on Save.

If however you are not happy, you still have to Save this picture as only then a Delete Button displays and you can now delete the picture and load a new one.

Before loading pictures check out the dimensions and see whether you have rectangles of say 300 pix wide or whatever your chosen BuddyPress theme from WordPress offers you.

This allows you to estimate which pictures are more suitable sizewise than others, which will save you time. At least that’s what I found… although I am aware that not everybody is familiar with cropping and scaling issues – and here you don’t have to. Experience comes with practice and whatever you do: always check the result by clicking on “Visit Site” at the top left next to your BuddyPress title.

Last tip: when clicking there, do so with a right-click and then choose to “…open in another window”. This allows you to check back and forth between your Dashboard and your Blog with no loss of time or having to reopen windows until you are totally satisfied with your results.

BuddyPress Art

Talking of pictures and images in connection with Buddy Press 1.0 obviously inspires me to add a new “Spontaneous Sketch” to our collection… as you know, all done within 10-30 seconds maximum with very little control, just a gesture following an inner rhythm or impulse, with the cool “Life is Lemon Pie” tool on the Yorgo Nestoridis Blog.  It’s open to anyone and comments are welcome and fun…

So here it is… guess who I had in mind …:)

Actually, the 1:1 original is like a real little mouse fitting into a small hand…

BuddyPress Media

You may think “… so what? A mouse is a mouse… and what has this got to do with BuddyPress Media” and you are right! However, did you ever think that many things of Greatness all started with a mouse? How about Walt Disney… and think about your interaction with a computer?

While we’re slowly abandoning our friendly companion and becoming more “touchy”, we still pretty much depend on this mysterious and curious little creature that showed a lot of character and courage when it shared our world as a child. . . or still does, as in my case…

People interested in Art and Drawings start asking how I “…do these?” Well, here are the Tools I used:

1. the fast sketching tool described above,
2. SPX Editor – an Easter Gift to all participants of the last YORGOO WebMaster Training
3. Photoshop.

Simple, Fun and… Imaginational!
