Behavior… and the new YORGOO Blaster YB271 Beta

Cape Town, March 16, 2009 – by Bianca Gubalke

Wouldn’t you agree to the statement that “Pleasant things work better”?

Think about it… things appeal if they are neat, if they are Fun! If you attended last Friday’s Webmaster Training you may have had a laugh as well when – into the usual big silencio following the loading of the new YORGOO Blaster YB271 Beta script – Yorgo the Greek suddenly offered $10 for the first site that came up perfectly with the new script.

Remember? I mean the first response appeared so fast in the chat that we had to look double… and in fact there were… with lightning speed… two correct responses and $10 x 2 cashed in by the two sprinters. WOW! Simply amazing… with a clear message: add the fun factor to the schlepp and suddenly emotions up the heartbeat, fear of loss focuses and you might even think out of the box to achieve the goal before anyone else does – in this particular case our fast-liners Laetitia Paris from France and Alejandra Neri from Italy brought home the trophy.

Behavior – Emotions – Signals – Communication and Reflection
– what does it take for YOU to change YOUR thinking?

I invite you to listen to this extremely interesting and funny VIDEO by a highly esteemed cognitive scientist and design critic.

Did you ever buy something and then wasted time to figure out how it works… ending up wondering IF it worked at all? Well, I have… and spontaneously, I am thinking of a typical phenomenon here in the Cape where to open an old door you have to bend down: the doorhandle is at about 60 cm height! The perfect invitation to open the door with your foot – closing it with a… you know what I mean! Don’t ask me why anyone could ever design this… but there’s more out

Don Norman - Behavioral Design

Don Norman - Behavioral Design

there that makes us shake our heads in disbelief… and this is exactly the field of  Don Norman who studies how ‘normal’ people interact with design, in that way exploring what a designer intends and what a regular person actually wants.

What’s important for us Internet Marketers here is that it’s basically about giving the market what the market REALLY wants in a user-friendly way. WHich is essentially about knowing one’s market – inside-out that is.

Don Norman is called “an anthropologist of modern life” who attempts to close the gap between products and their users.

He’s the author of many books on design and the way we humans interact with it, including the classic “Design of Everyday Things.”
Interestingly, his next book will be about sociable design…

But now take a few minutes and enjoy the VIDEO - there’s a lot in there to learn from – all packaged in great fun and without a single second of boredom… Plus, you will see a number of things we are discussing – be it GOOGLE, a Jaguar or simply our famous 2008 Mini Cooper – in a totally different light!

“Dr. Norman, a cognitive scientist who is a professor at Northwestern, has been the maestro of gizmos since publishing ‘The Design of Everyday Things,’ his 1988 critique of VCRs no one could program, doors that couldn’t be opened without instructions and other technologies that seemed designed to drive humans crazy.”
John Tierney, the New York Times

You see, today it’s all about opening doors… basically what YORGOO Blaster YB271 will do for us as well… if you think about it! It’s all a matter of Behavior… that’s why we are testing it!
