How to Heal

Seeing an article on “How to heal” on this Blog may astound you as normally I focus entirely on the projects and learning material at hand – Web Graphics, Web Design, Artwork, Design Workshops etc – , however, without a healthy body there is no healthy mind, at least not for long. So we need to work on it.

Also, over the past months I have often been asked how I manage to keep so fit, positive and healthy despite a number of unusually heavy challenges over so many years, and as it hurts to see some of our valued team members going down with some serious illnesses, may these thoughts be helpful for recovery and… healing.

The fact is: we can heal ourselves – absolutely! Provided…

~ we take full responsibility for our own life and wellbeing…,

~ we free ourselves up from fear and indoctrination…,

~ we watch what we let in in terms of mass media…,

~ that we watch our thoughts… meaning what we let out, and that

~ we do the necessary to learn to become comfortable within discomfort!

How to Heal

In my yoga class today, the teacher – a living example of her teachings – asked with what intent we, the pupils, had come to the class?

Only if there is a clear intent, there is a measurable result after the class.

My response to this was – “to heal, to connect, to flow”.

Not that I am not connected or not in the flow – very much to the contrary – however, there are many levels of connection and as individuals we are all at a certain stage that can always be gently driven to more profound levels. In a world that needs so much healing, it is important to know how to heal ourselves – as that’s how we do our share of healing our surrounding environment, which then has a positive ripple effect through space and time.

We cannot give what we don’t have.

Sometimes – and depending on our main big Purpose in life – we are given so many burdens and ‘learning curves’ that we seem to lose the conscious connection to ‘Source’, with the result that we become exhausted, that we lose orientation, that our batteries go flat. It’s also a time where we are prone to energy blockages – meaning lack of ‘flow’ – and consequently, dis-ease. Sometimes serious disease.

If we ourselves don’t realize what is happening to us or if we realize it but we just don’t manage to change the course of developments that seem to add up more and more challenges every day, we hopefully have someone who cares, who observes the signals and who tells us to stop, to look at ourselves from an outside perspective and, most importantly, to reconnect. Reconnecting is to heal from inside; sometimes it happens instantly. This is neither magic nor mysterious – it’s simple, ancient wisdom we have lost or that we may have replaced by something else without listening to our inner Knowing, our Intuition.

Healing through Yoga

Yoga – and Healing through Yoga – is in my personal view an essential practice especially in our chaotic world today.

While many think it’s all about some funny postures, flexibility and gymnastics – that’s really rather a positive side effect.

However, if you look at yourself as a human being, visualize your 5 ‘bodies’: the outer physical shape you know, the inner energy body, the mental body – where our thoughts and emotions originate and then reside in each single cell (this is a major clue!), then our intuitive body and lastly, the soul body.

In simple terms, through the various postures that are executed in a continuous flow and without any force or competitive hind-thought – as it’s about YOU and where YOU are right now in YOUR life, not the neighbour or anyone else – through these movements, postures and a concentration on your breathing you release blocked energies and connect from one body to the other, layer by layer.

It’s also a time where the disturbing chatter-box – your brain – stops its repetitive and often destructive programm, and you come to rest, into unity and flow.

As you do your postures, the body gets rid of accumulated stress, toxins and negative emotions and it realigns itself. It’s absolutely miraculous and revelatory to see and feel this happening! Each person does the posture differently as each person has a different life story – amazing! All this is gentle yet extremely powerful – a natural and highly efficient healing process.

While yoga has been around for decades in the Western world, it’s now that we see doctors and scientists from all over the world flooding into the large Yoga Workshops like recently in Boston, USA. We can look forward to a series of Workshops and Teleconferences of practising medical doctor and spiritual leader Deepak Chopra on how we can heal ourselves through yoga.

Maybe an experience as a child – with a terminally ill friend of my parents who then started yoga at around 60 years of age and changed so completely, leading a healthy long life after facing just a few months according to the doctors, really marked me. Later, I took up Kriya Yoga in Europe and practised it over years. . . a form of yoga noone down here teaches. But it doesn’t matter which form you choose – just start and allow yourself to connect, to reconnect, to flow – and most importantly: to heal.

Nature and the world need Healing – if we work on ourselves to be ‘whole’ and to be ‘free’ we have a lot of energy to radiate, to give and thereby change. Change starts with us, today, now!
