Touch, Vision and Speech interfaces for PCs predicted by Bill Gates in January 2008

Cape Town, 7 April 2009 – by Bianca Gubalke

Creating a website where Science and the Sensual meet has been a slumbering idea of mine for a while, however, I found the ‘normal’ possibilities within the current cacophony of the Internet too limited… as well as my financial means… as there are indeed extraordinary websites… but those that stunned me most demanded budgets that easily surpassed the million dollar sound barrier.

So there are websites… and there are Websites!

I asked myself two questions:

How good can we become with very limited means but a passion for what we are doing?

And… is the Timing right for what we do?

To answer the first question, we may get a chance with the new Semiomantics Script “YORGOO Press” that allows us to set up an Online Newspaper including all the Topics we want to focus on – which in the case of  Touch Vision Talk are the 5+ Senses (TOUCH, VISION, TASTE, SMELL, HEARING) and achieve the most important goal of any website online: get quick exposure on top Google rankings.

Of course, being a duplicatable script for many users’ applications automatically limits it and restricts complete personalization. However, there’s a lot of space to play, learn and work with for ‘normal’ people allowing us to grow and improve with the continuous technological evolution the worldwide web goes through.. and thus definitely the right step in the  ‘ideal’ direction.

I live with the maxime that “…when the student is ready, the Master appears…” so I humbly learn with what I have right now… knowing the right things will happen once I am ready.

Is the Timing right for what we do?

Within our Online Business developments we often quoted Bill Gates as saying that “…within a few years’ time from now, you either have an online business or you have no business”.

When doing my delightful Google research on “Touch Vision Talk” this morning, I came across a very enlightening article that puts what we do…  and why what we do the way we do it right now is the right thing to do NOW… into the right perspective:

“Microsoft Chairman Bill Gates says that… people will see a sea of change in the way they interact with computers in the coming five years.

According to him, more intuitive and natural technologies particularly touch, vision and speech interfaces will become increasingly important to the world of computers by that time.

“This whole idea of what I call natural user interface is really redefining the experience,” the BBC quoted him as saying in an interview.

“We’re adding the ability to touch and directly manipulate, we’re adding vision so the computer can see what you’re doing, we’re adding the pen, we’re adding speech,” he added.

Gates unveiled the Microsoft Surface computer, a large table like machine with a multi-touch interface, during the interview.

“I’ll be brave, in five years we’ll have many tens of million of people sitting browsing their photos, browsing their music, organising their lives using this type of touch interface,” he said.

He also hailed Google for its revolutionary search engine, but said that he hoped that Microsoft would also perform as good as the former one day.

“Google has done a good job. We expect to surprise people that we can match and even do better there – people should wait and see,” he said.

Definitely… we are on the right track and when doing our work properly and conscientiously there’s hope to not only reach out far… but to even get there!

Should I say: “Yes, we can!” with a twinkle…?
